Really I think the system in place now is fine. I mean people should be happy with the brains they got rather then moan they got something extra they didnt want.. I mean its random and a bonus so maybe we should be grateful for getting something aswell as brains.

It's kinda nice to at least get a mostly useless but still USABLE item. Getting a single piece of obsidian isn't terribly useful, but it's usable. Likewise, getting 8 melons isn't very useful most of them time, but you can at least eat them. Getting a block on a no place/break map is a pretty annoying waste of inv space. Sure, they are a bonus. But it's a lot nicer when your bonus is more than a random useless item that wastes space.
