Would just like to point out that electricity isn't generated at the pole itself. The pole simply carries wires that conduct the electricity from the national grid to the home. The electricity is switched from another form of energy (Such as heat or movement) into electricity via generators at various power plants connected to the national grid.

Well there's a lot of useful stuff in a computer. So instead of worrying about power I'd take:

1. A sheet of saran wrap. (to turn seawater to freshwater)
2. A good solid knife.
3. A metal bowl or pot. (since computers are full of holes and wouldn't make a good substitution)

If I can't use my items to get off the island, then... a knife, a metal pot to boil sea water in to drink, and... magnifying glass/flint and tinder to start fires with. (This is assuming there are trees with fruits, the water has fish, and there is no river)

Things I would take to an island.
Well, to get tot he island I would have to go by boat. And I assume the island is big, and has alot of sand and dirt.

The 3 other things I want:
1. Worlds longest internet and elektricity cable. So it could cross the ocean.
2. I would take some plants/trees. I can plant them so I get wood to build with.
3. Cows. I can get milk from them, I can get meat from them, and I can bred them.
