here's a thought- what if server staff forums were made visible (read-only), yet had a private subforum for non-public discussions?

it'd improve relations through perceived transparency, increasing player trust in staff.

thoughts?
These OverHaul forums were planned from the start to be made visible to see the how and why behind the admins decision making. Staff forums should never be visible to the public eye, since confidentially has been assumed the whole time between staff teams. That, and these forums often possess delicate topics that should not be brought up with the public.

the idea is it'd look like they're transparent which improves player morale while keeping the privacy in a hidden subforum which 90% of the playerbase either doesn't know/care/forgets about

That's like asking to see other player's private conversations in the forums.

thing is there's never any news
the only one with news within 20 days is the buildbox update thing
presumably the staff forums are having activity
If you knew everything that staff were talking about in the staff-forums then there wouldn't be any surprises left for the players. \o/

but they keep it in the staff forum because they are keeping it a surprise for us

if they made them public, they would move all the activity with it into that private subforum that you're suggesting

I understood what you meant by still having a private subforum. Thing is about making our current forums public is the we did not assume 'visibility' from the get go. This differs from the overhaul forums as superstein suggested visibility at the OverHaul start in this thread.

While we're at it anyone against the idea of opening this subforum up to the public to view (read-only) after we announce our plans once we're at a stage where we're ready to open it up for public opinion? I think it'd help with letting everyone know our thought processes here and to be more transparent - the most transparent we can be here.
If we were to make each current server's staff forums visible at the moment, I can guarantee we would be airing some 'dirty laundry' we had no intention to broadcast what-so-ever. That, and if we knew we had a choice between posting in a public and a confidential forum, most (myself included) would still opt for confidential one, making updates for some staff forums as rare as announcements.

Declined, reason is as follows -

staff forums are useful for breaching ideas that can often need refinement, after which we typically announce said ideas .

Players would inevitably - through no fault of their own - want to discuss newly breached ideas. Having to respond to player input and criticism of an idea that more likely than not hasn't even been vetted by other head staff would introduce unnecessary work and overhead.
