Ok so a bunch of people kept having this problem so I figured I'd make this to help out.

Portals in the main world will all link to the same portal in the nether if they are within 1024 blocks of each other. To fix this follow theses amazingly easy steps.

Step 1: Build a portal in the main world and write down its coords.

Step 1.5: Divide those coords by 8

Step 2: Travel into the nether (if your portal goes to a blocked one use someone elses)

Step 3: Travel to those coords you got after dividing

Step 4: Build a portal and light it up

Step 5: Profit (oh and if you did it right both your portals should link)

Y isn't multiplied or divided, but it does count for distance. You'll rarely ever see it matter, because the portal search distance is 128 blocks and the nether only has 128 height, but if your overworld portal were at 245, then it might happen if someone made a new portal above yours in the nether.
