I've always wanted a way to see who's typing a reply on threads. Take Skype for example, you can see when the person if typing something before you see it, so you won't always ask "are you still there?". I think this would be convenient to have, seeing that I, and I bet lots of others, just love to know when things are happening.
I can't think of anything wrong with this, so if you find anything wrong, post it. I'll be watching for it.........

If I'm not mistaken, Blocktopia uses xenForo, right? If that's the case, it looks like a few of the members on xenForo were talking about what you're suggesting and liked the idea of it. I guess that they're thinking about implementing something like this in a future version of xenForo. So, it looks like the Admins on here can't really implement this since it doesn't exist as of now, but maybe they'd be interested in doing it if it's necessary.

Forums are for asynchronous communication. The closer they get to synchronous the more awkward things become.

I feel this is, at best, heavily prodding that line.

Features like this are useful in communication with small groups of people, in environments where one member's communication can interrupt another's, such as Skype. In such cases, it's very useful to know when someone else is talking, since it means you'll know you're interrupting them. But you can't interrupt people on a forum, making it useless fluff we don't need.

Other than that. Let's not mention people with slow internet connection? If there keeps having to be a "Poopface1234567890360noscopebitch is writing a message." over and over again the slow internet just has to keep getting in new info and thus fucking over our internets ;-;

If we do this, we should just see live what people are typing while they type it in the reply box. Imagine the things we would see.

Edit: Actually why don't we have a webcam feature so we can see people live while they type live. Right? /sarcasm

I am still waiting for your post.

Spammy?

Just an idea.
That just sounds pointless. 3: I can understand if its an instant messenger but not a forum thread.

*cough* cough pills? *cough* ~haaack *cough*

just to clarify this for everyone... I'm pretty sure the intention, is not about live text (nor would it be shown). It would be a simple warning that just gives users a heads up that someone else is posting, so they may choose to wait when others new information is shared. Although i'm more inclined to PyP's explanation as to what forums were originally.
