I really like those kind, it gives a nice feeling to the drawings (sorta kid like, friendly feeling)
This kind is really nice with drawing anime, the more realistic kind not the giant kind.

It feels realistic but still attached to the fiction/anime like feelings you get from drawings like these
You could step up to a realistic eye, they are fun to draw but take more time than anime eyes.

If I'm way off topic and just fumbling here then

because trap can't see it: http://www.dragoart.com/tuts/pics/7/6898/42257/drawing-anime-eyes.jpg

I tend to concentrate a lot on the iris and shape. I get most of my influence from Disney. Big, doe eyes that are disproportionate to the face. That, and their mouths :/

There are all sorts of eye tutorials on deviantart.com

M.C Escher's "Skull in eye" artwork, values every crevice, crease and line.

I hope this helps out in some way.
