Huge lag spikes

Often when I am playing RoF, I experience these huge lag spikes. It does not happen on any other server for me. They last for around 4-10 minutes.

The chat would start lagging greatly, then finally, after 4-10 minutes, the game would start catching up. The players would look like as if they are speedhacking, then it turns back to normal. Most of the time, I am the only one experiencing these lag spikes. Again, it does not happen on any other server. Only on RoF.

Is there an explanation for this? It's very annoying.

Since your in a house anyway, would that be softened by turning down the render so that unseen chunks aren't being updated any more?

if it were client lag yeah, but it's server lag, so that wouldn't do anything
