not sure how many people know/care/use this but irc logging inconveniences were brought up somewhere so here's another way

I use chat log mod.
This is how it works:

An easier way to do this is to go into %appdata% -> Roaming -> .minecraft -> Logs
Or click open resource pack folder, go to .minecraft, then logs
