Terms and rules

Here at EscapeRestart, we have a set of rules and guidelines that you are expected to adhere to if you wish to have a problem-free, enriching experience being a part of our great community. By registering an account and/or contributing content to this community, you agree to these terms and conditions of service.

Please be sure to read all of our posting guidelines and our stickies, as well as these guidelines as ignorance is not a valid defence.

1. No excessive usage of profanity

While we have no objection to sharing your opinions and debating a topic - in fact, we encourage it - with other members of this community, we do not tolerate any excessive profanity whatsoever.

A minor or infrequent usage of profanity is permitted. If you are found to be using profanity frequently, your posts will be deemed of a flaming nature and you will be dealt with accordingly.

Since the measure of excessive usage is ultimately decided by the Community Admins on a case by case basis, you will receive ample warning prior to being banned due to the infringement of this clause.

2. No racism, discrimination, threats or personal attacks of any kind are permitted.

This is a friendly community and as such you are expected to be courteous and follow general posting etiquette. There are times when you may not agree with someone, or you've had a bad day and that's fine, we all have those days. But please, for your own benefit, leave your problems off of EscapeRestart.com. Doing so will ensure that EscapeRestart stays a welcoming, friendly place.

3. No spamming is permitted, whatsoever.

Spam is posting any content that is not within the topic of discussion, or does not contribute anything to the forums - off topic OR on topic. The definition of spam used by this community is determined by the Community Admins and is not open to discussion.

4. No trolling, flaming, inciting hatred or instigating flame bait is permitted.

In general, any parties involved in a flame war - whether they be the instigator or the flamer - will be dealt with accordingly. The best way to stay out of trouble, with regards to flame-fests, is to not join in.

5. No discussions about religion.

This ties in to point 4. One of the most common causes of flame wars, trolling and offense is the discussion of things people believe strongly in. Due to the general strong nature of people's beliefs in religion we disallow discussions of these subjects to prevent the near inevitable breaking of rules 2 and 4.

6. No selling of products or services, unless approved by a member of the administration.

7. Avatars and signatures need to be of a reasonable size and appropriate. Abuse of any of these privileges will result in revocation of them.

Avatars are currently only available through the gravatar service.
The maximum rating for Gravatars is: G.
The maximum HEIGHT for signatures is: 200 pixels.

Signature Rules and Guidelines:

  • You can link to your homepage or favourite site, but you can’t use it for advertising.
  • Limit your signatures to a handful of llines.
  • Please keep the coloured text to a minimum (and your signature readable).
  • Keep your signature clean - all images should be safe for work.
  • Please make sure your signature adheres to the other rules and guidelines found on this page
  • We reserve the right to edit signatures that we consider (but not limited to): too big, flashy or inappropriate.

8. Do not beg (for likes, reputation).

Asking for Likes or Reputation is not permitted as we believe that people will show their appreciation for your work without your having to ask. If you have to ask, you probably don't deserve it.

9. Do not ask for a position on staff.

For those of you interested in being a part of the EscapeRestart staff, here's some advice: Since launching we've received requests from people to be a part of our staff - be it IRC, wiki, community, etc. but what is important to note is that the vast majority of those requests have been accompanied by a lack of initiative being shown.

Show some initiative and your work will be noticed, along with your attitude and your passion for the community and the chances of us picking you up to help out will be higher. This should really have gone without saying.

Our policy generally is: if you ask for a position or privileges, you reduce the chances of your getting it, and even risk getting kicked. You shouldn't have to ask; you demonstrate that you fit the bill and things should fall into line.

10. No advertising.

Advertising of any form is completely prohibited. In an effort to reduce forum advertisement, if you register an account on our forums, we will also use an automated check for certain details in third party international advertisement bot databases. Your information will not be saved at these third party locations.

This also includes advertising ones own server, which are not official EscapeRestart Servers. Any server advertising for private or other projects has to be confirmed and asked for with the Head Staff first.

11. No invasions of privacy or disclosure of personal information.

Using any aspect of this community to obtain and/or disclose personal information about others without permission is not acceptable and will be dealt with accordingly. Aspects of this community include (but are not limited to) the forums and any game servers or IRC channels officially run by the community.

"Personal information" includes (but is not limited to): approximate or exact locations, phone numbers, real names, Facebook/MySpace/Google+/etc. accounts, Skype/MSN/Yahoo/etc. accounts, or photographs. Content not on this list may still be judged to be disclosure of personal information by staff in some cases.

Reporting Posts

We have staff at EscapeRestart.com for a reason. As such, our staff will deal with any and all issues with regards to infringement of the Terms of Service. It is our duty - not yours. If you want to help out, please make use of our Reporting Posts system.

The concept is simple. You report any posts infringing the Terms of Service, or any of the particular sections in our Rules/Regulations/Guidelines.

Any time you come about a post that does so, click the link that says "Report" at the bottom left of the post, type the reason for the report (it BETTER be a valid one), and click Report Post.

Warning Abuse of the Reporting Posts system will not be tolerated. Doing so may result in a ban.

We have a system to assign infraction points. PMs are automatically mailed to the rule-breaker when an infraction is applied, and bans are automatically made when a point threshold is broken

  • PERMA BAN: 20 pts
  • 1 WEEK BAN: 10 pts
  • 1 pt: General Warning (our all-purpose warning poke) - 1 week expiration
  • 2 pts: Useless Post/Duplicate Topic/Necropost - 2 week expiration
  • 2 pts: Signature that breaks new guidelines - 2 week expiration
  • 4 pts: Trolling - 4 week expiration
  • 5 pts: Personal Attack - 4 week expiration
  • 8 pts: Spamming - 2 months expiration
  • 12 pts: Advertising - non bot - 2 months expiration
  • 13 pts: Posting Hacks/Piracy - 2 months expiration
  • 15 pts: Discrimination (homophobia, sexism, racism) - 6 months expiration
  • 15 pts: Pornography - 6 months expiration
  • 20 pts: Advertising - bot - no expiration (automatic permanent ban)

Be aware that infractions have multiple meanings with an 'or' qualifier assigned to them - if you were infracted for 15 points for "homophobia, racism, OR sexism", Please do not PM us about the injustice - read and understand the OR part of the statement, multiple reasons are grouped for ease of point assigning. The infraction reason should be elaborated by the infracting moderator in the last bit of the PM you are sent.

Note 1:

While we try to guarantee that every member is given three chances, we reserve the right to make any decision we believe is necessary to address the situation at hand up to and including, but not limited to, banning someone without warning.

Note 2:

If you manage to get yourself banned, and decide to ban evade you will most likely get banned again, but depending on the reason you got banned, we can also decide to send a formal complaint to your Internet Service Provider.

The EscapeRestart Staff reserve the right to read any messages usually deemed private if the situation calls for it (for example, if the contents is reported) and reserve the right to edit or delete any content provided by anyone on EscapeRestart.com.

Regarding Multiple accounts, account sharing and computer sharing

We have several checks in place to warn us of multiple accounts used, as well as multiple accounts used on one computer. As a general rule, we do not allow multiple accounts to be used by the same person, because there simply is no need for it, and causes staff unnecessary administrative duties. We do allow sharing of a computer to access multiple accounts, especially for families, but friends are tolerated to. Please try to keep it to a minimum however, since an account will automatically get locked upon detection, and an investigation will usually be done before unlocking the accounts again.

Regarding Map Submissions

Rest assured your maps will always be your property, and as such you can do with them what you want. However, should we decide to accept your map, it will also become our property to modify / change how we see fit. usually this means just little tweaks to enhance gameplay. It also means that, should we find maps submitted to, and accepted by us in other communities and the person who submitted them to there is not the original creator, we will try our best to get the maps removed, seeing as they are your, and our, intellectual property.

Regarding material produced on our servers

Any content that is being produced on our servers (blocks placed and destroyed by you) is the property of the EscapeRestart Community. By building on our servers you agree to give us full rights to use the result in any shape or form deemed necessary by us (marketing, video showcases, etc). We are not obligated to give you the resulting world files. You are also not allowed to use any of the material produced on our servers in any commercial and / or public way (on other servers, etc).

The above stated are not absolute. They are guidelines for those wanting to ensure that their stay here is a pleasant one.
