Enchanter.
Crafter+Mage is my idea. Somewhere between the two classes.
My idea for this class revolves around minecraft 1.0 right now, unless it can be done in this current versoin. I don't know. I didnt make Primordia.
I always visualized this class as more crafter then mage, but this class can also hold off in a fight.
An enchanter has the ability to wield all tools. This includes diamond, and gold. They can wear leather helm, and legging. They can wear Iron and leather helm and chestplate.
They can wield up to gold in swords, but not diamond.
My idea is that they can enchant weapons and tools to be more powerful, or have elemental capabilities.
examples:
Sword: can be enchanted with: poison, fire, strength, and healing capabilities.
Bow: can be enchanted with, fire, strenght, and healing capabilities.
Hoe: can be enchanted with: automatic fertile soil upon tilling
Shovel: can be enchanted with: being able to go through dirt faster, and yielding possibly 2x dirt drops.
Pickaxe: can be enchanted with: Possible double drops, healing capabilities.
All armor enchantments will include but are not limited to: hunger stifling/slowing effects, VERY slow HP regeneration, stronger defense, etc.

This class will have skills similar to a crafters, but will also have enchanting skills as well. This class is mainly a helper class, giving powerful tools to those who need them, BUT the enchanting spells will require a heavy price. I'm gonna say, all mana, 30%hp taken, and items used up depending on the item that is being enchanted. Said items will be valuable, like a cobblestone stack, or 25 redstone, 1 diamond, etc.
Enchanters will be able to equip all of what they can enchant, except for the armor above their equip level.
Enchanters will be a tier 4 class, branching like this,
Crafter>miner, gatherer, apothecarian>blacksmith, herblorist, alchemist>enchanter
Mage>Sorcerer>pyromancer, soulstealer, thunderbringer>enchanter

Mull over this sexy class. :D

How to get EXP:
Killing things, possibly bonus points for back stabs?

Skills:

Level 5: Backstab (well same as rogue, however if you kill with it possible bonus EXP?
Level 10: (Like all) Mark + Recall
Level 15: Sneak (Same as if you were to go behind a 1x2 and crouch (makes you invisible from other side but you dont need to crouch)
Level 20: Stab (does extra damage and freezes target for short time (1 second or something)
Level 25: Poison (poisons target)
Level 30: Hide (blends in with what ever tile you are standing on (from targets view, if user was standing on sand tile, looks like a 1x2 of sand) Likes this o

While this is leaving the class suggestion a little plain, I would assume that there would be a "Jack-of-all-trades" class. This class would have what may be considered the most useful 1 skill from each class. Now as you might all know, this is far overpowered; but theres a catch. You can only use the skills that are from classes you've mastered. Since you can only take one path from each class, there are skills you will never learn. Lets face it, every cheater would want a "I am God" type class. This class would allow us to track these cheaters more efficiently (considering there are cheaters that would even bother, as they seem to be getting smarter and more organized on beta servers). Who doesn't want a class like this anyway?
