Welcome to another Blocktopia Mafia Adventure
Bigger - bolder - beefier
This is the Sign-Up and Info thread!
This has a different, fresh storyline to be discernible from the great games that Alpha102 has run, and will run again after this one.
America, 1923, prohibition is in full swing, and you simply cannot stand the current politics, the backstabbing, the poverty, and all that anymore. Europe, despite seemingly not being much in a better state, at least allows alcohol and has one lesser evil that made your life miserable: The Mafia. To flee from all this, you decide to scrape all your money together and get a cruise ship back to Europe, and try your luck again there.

You had heard so much of the famous cruises across the atlantic that you, when the day finally came, were almost too nervous to board the MS BEAGLE II for your long ride across the sea. But yet you were there, all your saved up money spent on the ticket, two bags packed, and ready to spend the next three weeks at sea on the long journey to London.

The MS BEAGLE II was a smaller ship within the fleet of HMS, consisting of a crew of 15 and up to 50 passengers - nowhere near the size and scale of ships like the late RMS Titanic. But seeing how that one ended up, you weren't too sad to get across the pond in a smaller vessel.

The atmosphere was a mixture of joy and waryness. Most other passengers were failed prospects of the American dream, chased away by the harsh realities of the 1900s - a wild mix of people from all walks of life. At first you started to wonder at their reasons and intents for doing the journey, but after a bit you gave up pondering about that, as it didn't lead anywhere.

For a little while, all your worries and doubts went away, as the days passed with reading, playing Shuffleboard, and having a drink here and there - seeing how the prohibition didn't target open water.

And then it all went to hell.

Things started to break apart during the end of the second week, at first it didn't even seem like a problem: Two of the crew came down with what seemed like a normal infection or cold. A day later, most of the crew, including the captain, fell sick, leaving the ship outside of the control of anyone. Mostly due to booze you and the other passengers didn't feel too terrible about that, hoping for a quick recovery of the crew...which never happened. Upon nightfall two days later, every single soul of the crew had died, befallen what by then seemed like only one possibility: Poison.

Confused and helpless, you and the other passengers got together to form a plan. As a first measure a thourough search of the ship was started...only to discover one thing:

In a large storage container a huge batch of reclaimed illegal gold was found, possibly on its way to being smuggled over to Europe. An amount of gold that apparently some people went all the way to kill for. An amount of gold...that taken everything into consideration...might be a reason for even further deaths.

Upon this discovery, all remaining passengers came together in the main dining hall. The atmosphere was grim.

Everybody knew: There are people amongst us that will not stop at anything to get the gold. Everyone knew there was only one thing left to do: Decide upon who to throw overboard, in order to be safe from any more deaths during the night time. And who knows, there might be even larger powers at play than anyone thought...

(tl;dr: You're all passengers on a stalemate ship. The Mafia has put some of their people on the ship to get rid of the crew and wait for their own boat to transfer and steal the gold. All other passengers only have one chance: Try to kill Mafia members in order to be saved from being killed during your sleep...)

(oh and I am a shit story teller, there are so many loopholes here, don't even start... Remember: Am German and this is all not in my day-to-day language)

General Info about "The Doomed Cruise"

This is a closed setup game. That means you will not know which roles exist, and how many of each. I would say that 80% of roles are common and normal, with potentially roles that pertain to the specific setting that is outlined above. No role will have any unknown factor to it, that would make it fail on any role actions (e.g. an insane Doc, etc.). You should be aware of the potential roles that can come up during a game (from prior knowledge of playing Mafia), and still be open to the possibility of roles you have never heard of.

This is a flavored game. You are encouraged to play as your character, but are not required to do full role play.

This is a complex game. I do recommend to only sign up if you have some prior knowledge of Mafia mechanics.

This is a serious game. Please only sign up if you think you are able to reply to this thread frequently and with enough seriousness.

This is a fun game. Some of the things that are planned might (!) make this the most unique Blocktopia Mafia season yet. At the end of the day, we all just want to have some fun.

Rules

(taken and adapted from Alpha102 )

Please read them before signing up. By signing up you agree that you read these rules.

Be respectful and polite.

- You can NOT edit posts. Make a double post instead. (Editing posts should be disabled in any case)
- After you have died you are allowed to post one last statement, that is not related to the game. Afterwards your posting permission will be revoked from the game.
- If you have not signed up to play mafia, do not post in the game thread.
- Do not rate posts (ex. Like, Dislike, Agree, Disagree) after you die in mafia. Rating posts instead of making posts while you are alive is discouraged as well, as the posts are the life of mafia.
- You are not allowed to use the -In a conversation- status as a tool against someone.
- NEVER post a screenshot with PM's. If you do, you will be kicked from the game with no chance of alternates replacing you.

Honesty and Cheating

  • In all interactions with the moderator, you must be honest.
  • Do not contact any player in or outside of the game about the game unless specifically allowed to by the moderator. When allowed, only do so in the specific manner allowed. You are free to talk to people about the game in a way of alerting them to new posts, etc., as long as you dont talk about things happening.
  • Do not attempt to access another player's information by technological means (such as hacking).
  • Do nothing that would be considered cheating.
Gaming the System

  • Do not quote your role PM, take a screen capture of it, etc. You may paraphrase the role PM.
  • Do not attempt to analyze the mechanics of a role PM in comparison to other players. For example, "the fourth word of my role PM is town." Or "my PM was sent at 11:23, when was yours?"
  • Do not attempt to use a system of robust cryptography, etc. Do not use small or invisible text to attempt to avoid detection.
  • Actions that involve "bets" or other outside-the-game contrivances to try to confirm a player are prohibited. Examples include, but are not limited to, avatar bets, replacement bets, etc.
  • At no time should there be pre-game alliances made.
Activity

  • You are expected to be an active participant in your game. Do not flake.
  • If you know you are going to be absent a particular amount of time, post in game and PM the moderator that you will be V/LA. Please include the date you plan to be back and posting.
Lynching

  • Each player gets a single vote to use during the day that they may change as many times as they wish to vote for any player.
  • When a majority of players are voting for an certain player, that player is "lynched" and removed from the game.
  • Players may vote for "No Lynch." If at least half of the players vote for a "No Lynch," the day ends without a lynch.
Behavior

  • No racist, homophobic, sexist, etc. language may be used.
  • Harassment of an individual player is NOT permitted. It is the nature of the game that players will be antagonistic toward each other at times. However, it should always be kept in the spirit of a game.
  • Always play to your win condition. Never sabotage your team's chances simply because you're angry at them.
  • Do not discuss ongoing games in the game.
  • Do not discuss this game anywhere else with anyone else.
The Moderator

  • The Moderator will post frequent vote counts.
  • The moderator reserves the right to alter any rule in the game including any of the rules found in this document.
  • If the moderator makes a mistake on a vote count, please address it in thread in bold.
  • PM the moderator with other concerns.
  • The moderator has the final say.

Voting

Please follow the correct voting mechanism, otherwise I will have to modkill you out of the game:

In an extra line at the END of your post, using bold, vote like this:

vote <fullplayername>

The same goes for voting No Lynch and Abstain. If you decide to change your vote or fully unvote, please make sure to also make that bold. Always unvote before voting for a new player, even if it is in the same post:

unvote
vote <name>

Abstains and No-lynch
If you abstain, that shows that you do not count in the vote and you are not factored into the total player count.
Ex. 20 people playing, 6 abstain
Normally it would be a majority (11/20) of the total players, but with 6 abstains it only requires 8 to lynch. (8/14)
No-Lynch-If you do not want to lynch anyone that night. You are still factored into the total players.

Once a majority vote has been reached, no one may talk. The host will write a confirmation post, and then prepare the transition from day to night.

The thread will be locked during night time.

omg this is awesome i've been waiting 2 months for this moment 0-0

So it probably also was that excitement that made you fail on the initial signup "command" already? ;)

ansoro2112 - Could you quickly add to your post if you have played a forum mafia game before?
Ooglie101 - you as well please?

I have already played Forum Mafia (no matter if here or in another community) before: YES

Also, one winner rating wasn't good enough to show how awesome you are for making this sub-section.

Edit[Ohgod already editing xD]: I got a question GmK
  • Do not contact any player in or outside of the game about the game unless specifically allowed to by the moderator. When allowed, only do so in the specific manner allowed.
What if I were to tell someone on steam to check the thread for new posts? Would that be allowed?
Also what if both people talking outside of the thread are death?

Good question, I'll clarify above.

1. Of course, you can always contact people about the thread for non-game reasons, e.g. to alert them to new posts, or to have them read a fun post, or whatever.

2. There will be a specific subforum for all dead people where they can discuss their hearts out about the game. As it can only be seen by dead people this is the place for them to talk, talk, talk. :D
