[Suggestion] member titles

can member titles not be an operator only thing?
they already have banners 'n colors. we can't even have statuses as mock titles anymore.
please?

Anyways, this is a fine suggestion in my opinion, I don't see why regular users -shouldn't- have the ability to do this.

I think it would be nice for community members to have a different title instead of "Member', but I think they should be preset-- maybe based on the trophy titles that the forum has or something similar-- instead of giving everyone the ability to have a personal title which you probably want.

One reason why it shouldn't be open to everyone to change is that it would be hard to moderate in terms of what's appropriate within the community. I'm certain that some members may choose bad titles so in the end it may just be abused.

But, like I said, I think having new, preset titles for members would be interesting.
Quick example:
10 posts - newbie (or something nice)
50 posts - regular
100 posts - in too deep
500 posts - weeee
1000 posts - talks too much

I tottally agree with Psycho there. I think the post titles sound cool but if members got custom titles, some may abuse it, but there again, some people deserve some sort of funny little thing, due to donors getting banners it might be cool to add something for people who contribute to suggestions ect. Regularly

i think some suggested things for this included these ones last time it cropped up somewhere

- pre-overhaul people
- people who have been here x time
- people who have x trophy points
- people who xyz for the community

Hehe, I didn't give the examples much thought, but if the general idea was accepted then maybe the admins will open up a thread for everyone to submit better group titles.

I don't think 'Talks too much' is really a good rank title anyway, some people can see it as 'punishment' for getting so many posts.

there are so many problems with that it's not funny
and having it as a donation reward is just BLEAGH

it'd be more work to set it up that way anyways
plus you'd have to come up with tiers and names for each post/rating count level
better to allow custom titles, and we can report users directly from profiles if there's an issue

Actually, you bring up a good point. If the Admins decide against enabling Members to edit their title, or having preset titles based on posts/ratings/etc., or making it a donator perk, THEN the only option left, that I can see, is that the Member would have to either become staff for a server or the forums.
The titles are basically something that should be earned.

I think status updates kind of make having a custom title redundant. It's a good cosmetic thing to make a donator perk.

2 things

1 - We have used this system before and I can't remember a specific instance where it ever went awry. IF someone can present a time where this didn't work, I'd be glad to retract this point, but I will make my claim assuming there was never a point where moderators had trouble with inappropriate titles. I think it's important to pay attention to the fact that moderating this was never hard at any point where we still had this functionality.

2 - IMO Ops, just by extension of necessity receive immense benefits, so it doesn't make sense to me to add on to them with this in particular. It could be that Donators use this, and it makes some sense in the same way that custom banners do, but as someone who's experienced all 3 sides (player, donator, moderator) I think it makes the most sense to be given to everyone.

I don't see any problems, however Hunter seems to disagree with you for some reason, perhaps they could elaborate and possibly highlight any points we might be overlooking?

judging from how far we are from the month end, maybe we need even more donation incentives/perks

might come off as a bit desperate- haha they're the ones who make people pay for a small title and removed the status bar
to be fair, we are desperate for donations, but having these rewards may encourage people to make a small one-time donation simply to get the thing and not bother with it in the future, as they got what they wanted. plus being desperate drives away some people.

note that i'm pulling the above and below out of my ass but it may still have merit
if this ends up as yet another cosmetic donation reward, it separates members from donators AND staff by putting them on a higher tier
something should not be both a staff exclusive feature and a donator perk
