This is my first map submission to AoD, and let me just repeat this, I DO NOT WANT THIS MAP TO BE ENTERED IN THE MAP COMPETITION. I thought of this map while I was playing AoD on Arachnophobia and killed 6 people with snowballs only. I also added in a couple other ideas from my mind and this is the result. Screenshots at http://seanswimmer.imgur.com/all/ and .zip at http://www.mediafire.com/?ub6laa3iqb6nkjn

My goal for this map was to make it fun and unique. You spawn in a miniscule snowman village, but there are many things in the environment to find..... this is a unique map because you have no weapons, just snowballs. Also, there are items hidden in the map in natural places where you can find building blocks. that's right. This is a Build-Your-Own-Fort map!

Choose Your Own Kit? No

Spawn: x:246 y:64 z:-79

Limits: [Cube] About 150 blocks out in each direction from spawn.

Unbreakables: EVERYTHING except for CLAY and REDSTONE_LAMP on/off

Build Time: 4:00

Survive Time: 10:00

SURVIVOR KITS:

SnowWarrior: LEATHER_HELMET | LEATHER_CHESTPLATE | LEATHER_LEGGINGS | LEATEHR_BOOTS | SNOW_BALL x64 | SNOW_BLOCK x32 | COOKED_CHICKEN x5 | WOOD_SHOVEL

SnowmanMaker: SNOW_BLOCK x 64 | PUMPKIN x 64 | SNOW_BALL x 64 | COOKED_FISH x5 | WOOD_SHOVEL

SnowMan: SNOW_BALL x 64 | SNOW_BLOCK x64 | WOOD_SHOVEL

DeviousTrapper: SNOW_BALL x32 | REDSTONE_DUST x64 | REDSTONE_TORCH x64 | LEVER x10 | STONE_PLATE x15 | DISPENSER x5 | ARROW x64 | TNT x64 | WOOD_SHOVEL

SnowAngel: GOLD_HELMET | LEATHER_CHESTPLATE | LEATHER_LEGGINGS | GOLD_BOOTS | SNOW_BALL x80 | SNOW_BLOCK x64 | GOLD_BLOCK x32 | COOKED_PORK x5 | WOOD_SHOVEL

HUNTER KITS:

SnowBane: FLINT_AND_STEEL | WOOD_SHOVEL

DarkSnow: SNOW_BALL x64 | SNOW_BLOCK x64 | WOOD_SHOVEL

[Dark Hunter kit] SnowFighter: LEATHER_CHESTPLATE | LEATHER_LEGGINGS | LEATHER_BOOTS | FLINT_AND_STEEL | SNOW_BALL x80 | SNOW_BLOCK x64 | WOOD_SHOVEL

As you can see from the kits, I couldn't help but add a FEW lethal weapons. You can also see that in a fort building team, it's good to have a DeviousTrapper by your side. IF this is chosen, it would certainly be fun to watch the teams that form, the forts that get built, what the DeviousTrapper makes, and all the things players will do under such interesting circumstances.

P.S. Because you can't break much in this map, the SnowAngel's gold blocks are useless except for the fact that it can add bling to your fort. :3 And also, because it is a Build-your-Own-Fort map, could it please have an extended building time? If you don't like my decision on the build time, be sure to suggest what you think it could be. Thanks!

I don't know much about mediafire, but my guess would be that you need to give us the public link, as the current link doesn't work at all. Also, I'm pretty sure there are no "rare" kits.

Ok Olix, I did that.

just a note, this map should look empty. It has chests in hidden places, and you're supposed to make it filled with your forts! And also, in the caves, a little note, the snow is there for a reason ;)

This looks like an ok map aside from the fact that snowballs do not do damage. If a survivor just runs around on the surface they will be quite hard to kill. I'd recommend you add some sort of weapon to the hunter kits to fix this issue - maybe even bows?
Also, you should leave the build time at 3:00 just so that survivors really have to rush to build. Since most survivor kits only give out about a stack of blocks, they should only need about 2:00 to finish their fort. Any longer would get boring and make it nearly impossible for the dark hunter to infiltrate all the towers.

I think it's possible to kill with snowballs. On AoD, at least. I'm sure Swimmer can clarify.

It's possible to knock someone off a ledge with snowballs - no ledges would make this more difficult.

I haven't been able to look at the map very closely, but it did seem very empty.

Finally, we cannot implement rare kits. All kits have an equal chance of being selected. Because of this, we try to make sure that all of the kits are relatively equal with each other.

A team of survivors that build a fort could add ledges into their forts to add fall damage to their defence. As for survivors who run amok in the flat land, maybe we could add enchantments to hunter kits. I saw on a map that there was a flint and steel with sharpness II. maybe in the hunter kits, the snowballs could have sharpness, power or punch I and the SnowBane kit could have flint and steel of sharpness I. That could make it less tedious to kill someone with snowballs, and although that was my idea at first, i see how it could be a problem to those who are bored to death of throwing snowball after snowball. If that doesn't work, I would be ok with adding bows to the hunter kits.

Enchantments is not possible to add into kits, sword enchants is for left clicking with an item, a power enchant on a snowball might add damage when throwing, but i dont think they will be possible to stack then...

I'm thinking the flint and steel could certainly work as a weapon, whereas the Darksnow kit could just try to finish them off. If you have any suggestions for solving this problem with the least lethal weapons possible, please let me know ;)

Maybe use a weapon like on Arachnophobia and use a shovel of some kind? Also the shovel can be used to get more snowballs/snowblocks.

I just looked around, but I don't see anyway of killing a player in this. Snowballs do not do damage and there aren't any visible ledges or cliffs in which you could push people into. What I recommend, is to completely scratch the snowball idea, and make in into a different play style. Adding some more buildings and some ledges would really make the map better :D

Also, that cave system is really cool, I would make it into a main part of the map. Other than that, the map location is really good, it just needs some improvements. Good luck :D

Here are some screen shots, I did not show all of the cave, but it is awesome, trust me :D

I added wooden shovels to the hunter kits, but not to the survivor kits. This concludes my goal: They can't kill survive on ground. The survivors in this map are forced to team up and make forts with ledges to snowball hunters off of. if they don't, they're dead meat. Mission complete. :devilish:

Doesn't that completely defeat the purpose though

If you are going to make a snowball map, create the map around the snowballs itself. The map you have now, is really good for a close quarter game, not a push-and-shove-using-snowballs type of game. Unfortunately, if you are planning on survivors to create their own tools, then snowballs would be completely useless. If anything, snowballs would be bad in the sense that peeps could potentially teamkill with them :(

All I want to do is help you get this map passed so everyone can enjoy a new and exciting map :D

I've given all kits a wooden shovel so they have a better chance of defending themselves. If they want to make a snowball fort with traps and easy ways to kill, be my guest. but now, they can be able to survive on the ground, alone, if they really are that incredible.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to give this a -1. I just don't see how the gameplay is going to work, as snowballs are very ineffective and so the idea can't really work properly without making it so you can be knocked off of something. Maybe change it a bit to make it snowy bridges? But good effort!

I am currently redoing the entire map, incorporating infected's idea in. I am building it in my cubicle on BuildBox. It is going to be a rather.... small map, and I will do my best to make it ok, but I don't think I am going to finish it for at LEAST another couple weeks. You may be surprised at how different it is from the map I made earlier XD

Looking forward to seeing the new map! Since this one is a week old and does not appear to be currently acceptable for the server, I'll move it to the decided pile tomorrow. Please make a new thread when you complete the next version.
