Reintroducing our friend, Report!
Our old friend is useful in several situations, such as these instances found in "The Report Button and You":
  • Necroposts: Don't bring back the dead! Please report necroposts instead of simply commenting after the accused reply, claiming that they necroposted. Generally speaking, a necropost is reply to an old thread, where our definition of old is one month. Please note, 'necroposts' that are actually on-topic and spark further discussion may be excused from this category.
  • Flamewars: Don't attempt to break up a fistfight! If you see a few members quarreling in a thread, please report the guilty parties instead of getting involved yourself.
  • Double Posts: Like any other sub-forum in this community, please report any double post you see. This is to encourage good practice of simply editing in content if needed rather than making a second post.
However, there are a few topics that aren't covered that we need to touch on:
  • Unnecessary Posts ("Shitposts"): Unnecessary posting is the act of posting an unneeded comment which does not contribute to discussion in any way, shape, or form. Generally these aren't too big of a problem, but they may lead to an undesirable devolution of content in a thread which may eventually build up to an avoidable thread lock. Simply said, please try to keep posts on-topic to the thread's context.
  • Controversial Topics: Contrary to popular belief, this sub-forum is not titled 'Ethical Debates on Religion, Human Rights, and Politics'. Our reasoning for often locking and pruning threads that could be categorized in such a silly mythical sub-forum simply lies in what it creates; unneeded conflict. Conflict found in these threads often lead to personal attacks, flame wars, and just plain minimal effort posting, hence our reasoning to outright prune them. We ask you report such topics, as to minimize the amount of conflict generated.
"But Moderators, why are we being reminded to report?"

Simply put, we are attempting to increase quality of posts throughout this sub-forum and attempt to help maintain it as a healthy place for community interaction. With reporting, we are able to prune questionable content faster, keeping the environment nice and healthy. The intent of this post is to mainly increase the number of proper reports we receive, as we are currently in an era of 'under-reporting'.

Thanks for reading!
