Suggestion [Not Added] Map rotation instead of vote

Would you like a map rotation?

  • Yes, and jaku's list would be a good starting point

    Votes: 4 25.0%
  • Yes, but with our current maps

    Votes: 4 25.0%
  • No, I'd like too keep everything the way it is

    Votes: 8 50.0%
  • No, but I think we should replace our current map list with jaku's list

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • Yes, but with a very small rotation consisting of classics

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters

Lately some people have been complaining that we only have the same few maps constantly going around, since this practically is the same as a map rotation, I think we'd be better off if we instead created a map rotation, so we could have more maps so the current fan favourites wouldn't be the only maps played.

With this system, forum members could vote to add/remove maps from the rotation every few weeks, and we'd still keep atleast a bit of democracy in with the !rtv map vote.

I have written down a suggested map list here:

This is a Great Idea.
The current five map rotation is killing any enthusiasm I have for the map changes.
Disagree with some map choices you have left in there (Dolls,Vegas,MW2,minecraft and teenroom) but otherwise it's cool beans.

This is a terrible idea. There is a reason why some maps are played more than others.
Would you mind providing examples/reasons why you think this is the case.

I mean.. do I have to spell it out?

If a map is voted for more than others, people want to play it. If they didn't want to play it... they would vote for the other maps...
I mean I know I am the epitome of intelligence here in escaperestart, but this prospect of people voting for what they want otherwise known as democracy is preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetty sensible. I mean sure if you want to play another map rather than the popular ones feel free to vote them, that's how democracy works.

The reason I disagree with our democracy is because the premise of societies where the masses gain freedom of choice is that everyone needs to be educated about what they vote for, and have responsibility. With our current system where the final map vote lasts 25 seconds you can't tell anyone about the maps they are choosing thoroughly with no bias, so they will rely on propaganda in form of someone shouting the name of a map in the voicechat, voting the same as others, voting on the same maps as influential players(fly, Chandler Bing, wulfie, etc.) or on maps they have previously played.

Examples of societies and markets where people are given too much freedom without the necessary education is the USA with the right to bear arms. Since anyone can buy a gun any day, uneducated individuals get access to weaponry which leads to unsafe use. Coca Cola is a capitalist product which has led to terrible obesity because it grants temporary relief, while it isn't necessarily great for your health and well-being in the long run.

A map order is way better because instead of maps being chosen on a commercialist and ignorant premise, members on the forum will discuss a maps right to be a part of the order with argumentation going both ways, leading to intellectual map picking. Our current map order today is just picked by Inffy as he sees fits, but if people were forced to play maps more people would be interested in discussing the map pool leading to a more perfect democracy rather than the broken one we currently use.

EDIT: Either way we will keep the rtv is no violent forcing people to play a map. Therefore terrible maps which were added for experimenting will see little play.

I mean I get that you're /trying/ to out meme me, but you've kinda gone off track there pal. If you haven't realised all democracies work with popular people shouting about what they want I mean look at the brexit campaign. Either way you can do the same, just shout louder than fly, it's not that hard considering she doesn't use a mic ^_^ also she's a grill HAHAHAHAH SOCIAL COMMENTARY

EDIT:

That or the rotation can consist of only Community Bowling, 67thway and (new) Rooftops

"If you haven't realised all democracies work with popular people shouting about what they want I mean look at the brexit campaign"
Exactly, that's why democracies are flawed and why I want a map rotation.

"Either way you can do the same, just shout louder than fly, it's not that hard considering she doesn't use a mic"
This is absolutely so irrelevant to my whole post. It's not about what I want since I don't protest against the map vote since I'm generally an open-minded person, but about the fact that I believe the general enjoyment on the server would increase if we enforced a map rotation.

And since you think I've gone off track, let me clarify my statements, "epitome of intelligence".

- People make bad choices when influenced by loud voices rather than making choices with their own brain, hence if people discussed a maps relevance on the forums it would lead to more, hence a forum debate will lead to more intelligent choice of maps
- Enforcing a map rotation will lead to maps being tried out and removed or kept after being embraced with an open mind. I consider this a success as this would let us get closer to an ideal map pool.

Since we're just going to go round in circles I wont bother arguing anymore; whether or not some people may be swayed to vote a map because everyone else is asking for it still leaves the fact that many of the regular members are voting for those maps to begin with because they like them, which is why they're asking for it.

There are limitless problems with democracy, but we're a democratic server, everything that happens is usually conducted by votes just like this one, and it will hopefully continue like that. But never-the-less people can vote if they want to have a choice or if they want to be forced to play a map, I can't choose for them. Heck, I don't even play on that shithole server <3

A real Napoleon-complex you have there Aqua :p

It would be impossible to out-meme you, you think democracy actually works.

As you say you hardly play on the server so why be so adamantly against it if you don't particularly get affected by it.

Though ideally the time of those in control could be better spent fixing some weapons (Aug Scope literally doesn't shoot its target) and having new features added.

There are problems for either side of this.

In a way Aqua makes a valid point. People choose the "popular" maps for a reason. So if a map rotation was introduced then chances are the server will only be full for the duration of said "popular" maps and empty when the less popular ones are current.

People don't often like change, which I believe is the main reason people only vote for maps they are familiar and comfortable with. Why play on a map that you just get lost in all the time?

However, if we were to sift through the current maps and reduce the number that there are then a map rotation looks a lot more promising. Having few maps that everyone enjoys, for the most part, would make it a successful implementation. People will be able to play their favourite maps whilst experiencing some new ones, and with a small number of maps in the rotation it wouldn't be a long wait before their favourite maps are replayed.

This is one of those situations where it is entirely about compromises. Keep everything the same and have the same maps played time and time and time again, inevitably causes players to lose interest over long periods of time (Hello) or change it up, add a map rotation, remove the un-played/unpopular maps and maybe add some classics and ones that people have requested such as - Lost Temple & Canyon.

Every now and then a bit of change is nice :)
