A heavy wind was blowing as four horsemen closed in on a small village. Each one of them was armed and their purpose was clear in their minds. Infiltrate the village, gather data and retrieve the artifacts at any cost necessary. That was what their commander had told them. The village, although small, was crucial in the big picture, both for its location in the connection point of East and West Marendis and for the unearthly secrets it held. A little bit away from the village, they unsaddled from their horses and lead them to a hidden location where no one would find them. Then, in the darkness of the night, they slipped into the village and chose their victims. It was over swiftly and silently. Each of the horsemen then applied a written spell on themselves -- the only spell they'd be able to use on this mission - and transformed into their victim. As they did that, the unlucky first victims of a coming conflict shriveled away beyond recognition. The infiltrators hid the bodies and went back to their new homes to sleep.
