Well, after awhile of starting to get pretty annoyed (No, this thread is not me hating on blocktopia for reference.) with lack of players on any server, I was wondering why. So I checked on google to see if blocktopia was advertised at all, and found nothing but results from Blocktopia.net, and for the classic servers which are dead threads now. This is a HUGE problem, and no one is doing anything about it. We have 25ish slots on TNT, and usually 0-5 people are on at most, with the occasional spike of 10ish. RoF has usually around 14-20 people, which is nice, but filling around less then half of the cap space isn't that great. AoD is in a spike right now I'll say with around 14 people on usually, but thats because a lot of people from Zombie migrated to it. I usually see around only 5-15 people JtE anymore, which used to be pretty full often. It seems right now were just staying in a hole away from sites such as Minecraftforums (where some of the classic servers were advertised) and are just staying right here. Where people have to look up nearly exactly our server names to even find this site. I really love this community and don't wanna see it die because we stay away seemingly from ANYONE else going on the servers anymore. Sure there are a few faces now and then, but it doesn't really add much of anything to the player counts. Maybe its because its in the school year, but if that IS the case, thats around 8ish months of the year, which is much larger then summer break, and other breaks, leaving large gaps of player counts dropping very low. Its been very annoying for me to sit back and say nothing about the matter when my favorite server TNT is empty, and AoD only gets people on around mid-day, then drops later (Usually.) I was thinking maybe we should start putting effort into advertising the server, get good design people to make it look nice for a post on other forums to get a large crowd of people like minecraftforums, planet minecraft, and other minecraft communities, instead of just here.

Anyways, these are my thought on the matter, this is in no way me trying to be rude to the community, I just don't want to see it die (or basically die) because lack of advertisement and player base, with just the same people lingering around until they leave, the community will dwindle to nothing, and I hope this would get it more players, and players coming to stay.

Thank you, -Pikmon2

I think you guys are just overreacting. :p

Way back when, we always had tons of people on classic servers, and not as many people on Premium. That would probably still be the case, but the tons of people on classic servers is no longer possible. We still have some people who regulated classic, and are moving to premium. We also have major tests and projects around at this time, as some have said in the other thread.

There are just so many conflicting issues right now, from real life and Minecraft being updated while the servers aren't, that get in everyone's way of playing on the servers.

I know you're annoyed at people telling you to wait, but I'm telling you that patience is a virtue. Summer is the time that things will happen, because that's 3 months of free time. The servers WILL get more people over the summer. That is a fact.

And while we gain more people over the summer as Duffie said, those people will tell there friends, there friends will tell there friends and so on, it will continue to grow.

Blocktopia may not be in it's hayday anymore, but it's still active and slowly growing, it's not growing at the moment though because it's the most busy time of year! Some of us actaully have a life (Exept Sploorky) so we won't be on for the next few weeks. But when summer starts everyone will come back, and Blocktopia will continue to grow!

To say that no attempt has been made to advertise the servers is absolute poppycock.

Sure. It hasn't been sustained, but do bear in mind that the Administators do not only have lives of their own, but have also had countless other things to take care of. For example, the shutting down of classic servers wasn't just done at the snap of the fingers, it had to be planned and considered.

Besides, this is hardly the time to advertise. Year after year we see this scare of "omg nobody plays". Fact is, people prioritise and, when exams are just round the corner, most people put minecraft to the side for a few weeks.

Advertising takes time, skill and, more often than not, money. To try and bump Blocktopia to the top of free sites such as minestatus is not as simple as it may sound. After a while, people stop voting. This is proven. So what can we do? Create adverts of course! This has been done on sites such as Reddit, but remember that this all costs money. This needs to come from somewhere. Taking it from donations is all well and good, but at the end of the day, if adverts are to be funded, the donation goal is going to increase. A goal that we have, on many occassions, struggled to meet.

Of course, of course. It all helps in the long run, and I am by no means saying that there is no need to advertise. There clearly is. But, what I am saying is that it is utterly absurd and a tad patronizing, to suggest that this has not been considered.

Not a terribly well thought through post, but I really had to express my discontent with the suggestion that all this is just ignored by the people who run this commmunity.

Well, I have exams and I'm playing but not as much.
Also I don't think I would want the playerbase to go too much higher. In other communites I play and I feel like
"I'm just some random noob" which I don't like. You don't get that here and while t

I know about the Admins having lives, I never said spend all your time advertising and wasting your life away. Not trying to be rude, but I don't see anywhere where I said to spend all your days advertising and on blocktopia. I did think through the post, a good bit. I may not have written fantastically, none the less I did. It's also been pretty empty before finals came around, and just dropped further when they did. I've never said it wasn't considered either, I'm saying that I've seen next to no staff mention it (publicly at least), and most advertising I've seen is very biased that the community is wonderful in every way (This is NOT saying the staff has done that advertising, while in some cases like possibly Urban Dictionary this is the case.) I'm not trying to say the staff is doing a bad job either if you took it as that, I quite like most of the staff, but sometimes it gets annoying to see nothing happening, even if you guys are planning something. I ALSO don't see why you have to advertise on reddit and things, and not, per say, minecraft forums with a topic for each server, coming out overtime. Sure this may bring more hackers along with it, but it'd also give the staff more of a chance to go to work (Not saying they do a bad job at modding ect., I mean they'd be able to do more and help more to get a larger, better community.) I also never, after re-reading what I said, ever once said "there has been no attempt to advertise the servers". I said no one is doing anything about it, meaning currently. I even mentioned it being advertised back for classic on the MC forums. Whether or not theres the "omg nobody plays" scares every year, were still losing a large bit of players. You also say I have a not terribly thought out post, but in your post, you claim I say quite a few things which I never said, and use them in your favor/ dramatize them. I'm not saying your post was not well thought out, and I do respect you as an Director, but I don't see why you'd go and say that, then do what you did.

The Classic servers had always been more populated than Premium.

But honestly, the problem if there is a problem isn't getting new players to the servers at all.
I'd say we average maybe 1-3 new players a day, which stacks.
However, we just need to work on reasons they aren't hooked on the community.
Why they would decide to hop onto another server rather than stay.
If we get players hooked, it's much better than any advertisement that will be ignored by hundreds. Word of mouth is much more effective.

So, really, I'm saying we need to focus on the servers I guess, which we of course already are.

Making it more new user friendly, easier to access info about the server, making the servers more open.
And the servers accomplish a good bit of that already. JtE allows you to teleport to major cities, so players can easily find new land. Lava has the tutorial and that getting on an equal level of resources of many players doesn't take too long. Etc.

But we should ask ourselves what made us stay, compared to other servers, and focus on those.

I for one enjoy the community and the five-in-one server aspect, along with the standards we keep for staff~

That's just my input though. I don't really think we need advertisement that much though until we can actually keep the players on our servers that we'd gain from ads. Otherwise the players just fall through our fingers and its a waste of money.

Not going to specifically reply to anything, as I fear it could cause an unnecessary argument that neither of us want to get into. I do just want to clarify that I was talking about my post when I mentioned it being not well thought through, as a reference to my nonsensical and spontaneous ramblings. I can see how you interpreted it that way, so I am sorry for the misunderstanding!
