since SMP is on the decline I figure now would be a good time to ask the community about how would they feel about a modded server to hold us over the choices are either an
an ftb server which is more challenge-based and less open world
a tekkit server which is more open world and less linear in progression
an ATL server has an assortment of mod packs
or if we want to we can try and build our own community mod pack but this option will be the hardest to do without conflicts and crashes

I played a lot of FTB before I rejoined this community, and would love to see a server like this.

There are however some issues with a moded server, which is the reason I cant even remmember that we have ever had one:
  • It is very resource heavy on the dedi, so if we can even do this, it need to be done carefully.
  • It is bitch to set up, grief prevention, everything crashing, making sure everything works for the players, in general heavy maintance.
  • Previously at least, we have not wanted to put out a server which many people could not play because of that modded minecraft can be hard for user with less powerful toaster computers to run.
  • General lack of broad interest/people that are not already involved in modded have no idea where to even start, or are simply not interested

Again, not neccesarily against it, I have suggested it in the past, just stating a couple of issues that have been brougt up before.

I think it could still work as a event server, after all we did have the Pixelmon server for a bit and that was pretty fun even though I was basically trying to find Groudon and kept failing.

Well it obviously cant last forever, so would most likely turn into an event.

Being an event server does not eleminate any of the points I stated, however.

If this was to be done, modpack would have to be chosen as something not too resource heavy, compared to others, and in general working order.

we could use a lite pack or a vanilla+ pack those in my experiences are usually light on server load
Could try a sky island modpack
could you be more specific like a skyblock or what?

edit: i found this one that might be a good candidate but i heard somethings about infinity so https://mods.curse.com/modpacks/minecraft/253176-ftb-infinity-lite-1-10

Seeing 13 people try to pile onto a skyblock would be pretty interesting
go watch some youtube, you can have different islands (say 1000 blocks from each other), (if it was a joke, yes it would be fun to see that)

I would love me some skyfactory 3, or any skyblock for that sake. The concept is very different from vanilla, and I can't wait to see everyone falling into the void. If we go for doing a modded server, some sort of skyblock has my vote.

Has this Community ever done a legit Modded server besides Pixelmon? I remember Pixelmon which was fairly basic, but fun nonetheless.
If this was done, what would make our server any different (besides playing with people in this community) from other communities that have already done this? They would most likely have a playerbase and better grasp at what to do and expect.
Either way, I think it would be nice to have one - it's just the matter of which type, whether people in this Community are really interested in it, and if there are Staff who will be dedicated to making it happen and updating it along the way.

Long time ago, probably late 2011, brief stint in Tekkit. Was a success but was only up for about a week as a drawn out event or something like that.
