So, I decided not to buy the trench knife, even though I wanted it. You might call me crazy, but I am personally planning for 2012, just in case anything happens. And to get ready, I'm going to try to buy the following items:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Now, even if 2012 doesn't happen, I think these would be excellent items to have in my possession for any sort of disaster. Does anyone else have any suggestions for a disaster-preparedness kit?

Also, I have First Aid training (I took EMT classes and worked as a Paramedic for a little while), so I can use the First Aid kit effectively.

Don't call me crazy; I like to think of it more as "prepared"

Couldn't this have been in the old thread?

I was thinking of taking this up with my brother-in-law (he has a forge) but you might be able to get someone to make an arm guard (vanguard I think).

One or two, depends on what you want. Then after said metal arm guard is done, strap a leather coating on both inside and outside, then string marbles on the outside. (Doesn't have to be marbles, just something small and hurts like hell when you get hit with them, like legos). Your arm is now a fully functional kanabo. All you need is a good swing and someone's not getting back up. ;3

Buy an aluminum baseball bat.

If you're going against zombies, you'll need all the range you can get, not a silly knife where zombies will bite your hand off.

Plus the THWAK of hitting something with it is always satisfying.

And usually cleaner....
Psh, the knife isn't for defending myself. For that, I have many more tools.

It's your choice if you want to go nutty for the 2012 thing. (like people went nutty for y2k) At least you can get some useful things I guess.

1. Don't buy a knife with 2 sharp edges. (if you're set on getting that one then get a second) If you have a knife with a flat back you can use it as an axe if you don't have one of those. (hit it with a log that's sized to fit in your hand)

2. Get some water treatment tabs. (and some koolaid packs because generally the water will taste like crap)

3. Get a compass.

4. Get a magnifying glass. (relatively fast, easy, and free fires)

5. Get a local and a State map.

6. Get a hatchet.

7. Get a magnesium fire starter.

8. Get a foldable pruning saw.

9. Get a second pair of shoes or a pair of good fitting boots.

10. Get a file and a whetstone.

And that's all I can think of for now.

As far as I know, the 'End of the World' in 2012 is going to be some huge disaster (Natural or Extraterrestrial) that will somehow destroy all life or the world... not a Zombie Apocalypse. I'm not sure about you, but I don't think a Bullet-Proof vest will deflect a meteor ;)
And even if aliens do attack, for them to have such extensive resources to get here, they will definitely have far superior technology.

I'm not questioning your belief that something bad's gonna happen, I just don't think there would really be any way to protect yourself if it did happen according to the 'legends'. If anything, buy what Damer has suggested anyway, as it could be very useful in other potentially harmful situations!

End of the world isn't coming. An Indian civilization dead for thousands of years with much less than half of the technology we posses does NOT KNOW EVERYTHING. And if the Doomsday does somehow come, I'll just wait for my death. Not worth fighting the inevetible.

The bulletproof vest is for when society breaks down, as I know it will ;)

Anyway, I'm not expecting a zombie apocalypse. I've been studying the 2012 Prophecy, and the world will "end" with an earthquake, tidal waves and fire (sounds like a nuclear holocaust to me). As I've also studied human nature (and the fact that I'm very cynical), I know that when these things happen, people will become desperate.

Why are you wasting your last time by studying this, honestly :(
