I like this version BECAUSE it is more complex.
Also here is a tip to heal more passively:

Upgrade your gloves to the pink ones, as this heals you during a quest. Enter a quest like the dessert and you will heal much faster that normal while taking minimal damage from enemies. You can always just exit and re-enter when you reach an enemy
