I hadn't put any remote thought into buying music my whole life until this year, if I wanted music I would use a YouTube to MP3 converter. My brother became an 'audiophile' last year and he really rubbed off on me (can you blame me?) I developed a love for two beloved old bands, The Beatles and The Beach Boys. I never liked any bands as much as I like these two, so much that I actually bought CDs

Don't get me wrong, CDs are great if you really like the band, not only do you get a physical copy that you can be proud of but you can rip the songs into your computer at studio quality, generally MP3s are compressed versions of the original master recording just to save disc size.

Anyway, how many peoples on here actually buy their music? Digitally bought music counts too ;)

If you have headphones that cost anywhere above $20 the quality difference between most music ripped from YouTube and anything bought from a reputable online store/ripped from physical is extremely obvious. Support your favourite artists and buy their music.
itunes rips th0 hombre

I support all of my shitty hipster artists, especially because they're the ones who actually need the money - if an artist has <1k fans, I'd feel dickish for pirating their stuff. Multinational music recording and publishing companies with several orders of magnitude more profits per annum who're churning out "Best of" albums from dead soul singers and're just profiting from it? Nah.
I'd say I've spent 80-100USD on buying EPs from artists that I enjoy and would actively fund them to produce more music by doing so, but I've also been know to possibly maybe pirate music from those world-famous bands who aren't doing it just for the sake of making music as much.

i pirate the eagles to make don henley cry at night

[edit] i also own a funk record, mr confuse - feel the fire

Depending on the artist and if I really like their music I would buy their CD. In this day and age though I've bought a lot of iTunes music.

TBH, I don't have a single song on my new phone yet. I had nothing worth transferring over. I usually get sick of songs quickly, especially the stuff on iTunes Top 100. (Yes, I do like some mainstream music, but it gets old quickly) I never buy hard copies of any music unless a music CD happens to come with a game or something. That being said, I don't like YouTube's quality, either, but it's pretty much all I use for music, atm. I don't like downloading pirated versions because often the person that shared it did a horrible job at organizing it. The song/artist/album all get mixed up when it's finally downloaded to the phone, and that bugs me.

My phone is crap, so I have to record songs I play on my computer. Couldn't buy them digitally if I wanted to.

Yt-MP3 until it's available on iTunes beatport whatever, then I buy it. Most artists within the genres I listen to just want their stuff heard so I do what they want and support them when possible.

Isn't talking about (some people) pirating music, which is illegal, against forum rules?

Anyways, I usually buy digital. Having the CD is nice though when iTunes is being broken like normal.

I support buying music, but sometimes I'm just really cheap or too lazy. For my favorite musicians however, I make sure to support them by buying their music. Any physical copies of music that I buy are mostly vinyl tho lol.

Youtube to MP3 mostly.
Bought The Pretty Reckless Going to Hell album but that's about it.

I'm cheap, lame and everything costs money. I can't be buying music everytime I find a song I like.

Im going to confess here, As much as I love Monstercat and their music I flat out cannot afford it. Also they bundle their songs in with other songs, so you cannot buy two individually leaving me to use Youtube to mp3 converter.

EW mp3 is quite possibly the worst most compressed destroy the song garbage compression quality there is, never will I touch the stuff. AAC format from iTunes is also trash and is the top reason I stray from apple product.

So I'm left with the need to pirate the music or find better quality by purchase, its rare to come across a decent uncompressed song.

I use Spotify. And yeah, there's a good and bad side to music streaming services, but I can't be bothered to go through that. Although, it saves me money and I randomly find different artists/music to listen to that I would have never found if it wasn't for Spotify. Plus, I prefer to listen to different styles of music instead of the same thing everyday.

Don't get me wrong, I do buy music through Google Play, but not often.

Trevmaster9 - Monstercat has their full catalog on Spotify. I'd suggest that you use their free service where you listen to random advertisements instead of doing that youtube-to-mp3 thing (that's illegal, right?).

I normally just use a Youtube to Mp3 converter... Sorry I'm poor and I need my music ;-;
Using "I'm poor" as an excuse for piracy is bullshit. It's theft, and it's even pettier since they're stealing something they don't need at all. Going without that song you heard on the radio yesterday isn't as hard as people think it is. People that complain about being poor when in reality they have people paying for their meals, clothes, education and shelter really rustle my jimmies.

Note that if I feel an artist truly deserves it, I'll buy one or two of their albums. Planning to pick up a Muse, Lorde, and Linkin Park album soon

i just have unlimited data on my phone, and i only listen to shit on soundcloud anyways, so i just stream my music

probably the best $40/month ever spent tbh

only time i buy things related to music is vinyl if artists choose to release in vinyl and its a good album
