It wasn't SMP! It was A+T! It got closed like... in September 2012.
I don't think they will bring it back, until one of our classic servers gets ummm... closed.
Or until they use magic. We have already 7 servers.
That was a pretty cool server 
When it closed, it had a load of issues and was frequently down. While I loved A&T, I do not think it would come back unless those issues could possibly be fixed!

iirc GmK said that the server may be closing down indefinitely or temporarily, depending on whether a fix is available in the future. The server was a massive nuisance in it's last days, with it going down every time someone entered a map or having the permissions mess up, and with no bug fix there was no point in the server staying.

Ahhh it would be nice to see that come back! I've always wanted to do some of the awesome adventure maps I've heard of but for some odd reason I can never install them :/ Plus, doing them with some of the people in this awesome community? :D

Well, providing the Adventour plugin creator is still working on the plugin and got it working, it shouldn't be too hard, but with TNT closing and PTNT taking its place, and after A&T closed RoF took its place. So it may just be a matter of money, or the general fact that it would be a hassle setting it up again, or just that it doesn't work anymore.

I wouldnt be surprised if A&T came back, as it was a great server. The problems it had with the new update is hopefully fixed in the plugins by now, unless there was the plugins conflicting with each other or something.
Huh? Prim was the same as JtE is now, I don't see a large difference. But let's not discuss that here, as this is about A&T.
So, yes, the concept is still awesome, but there are two problems:
1. The Adventour plugin is still utter shit, unfortunately, and we could not base a server on it. We would need a dedicated developer who knows his stuff and is willing to write this thing from the ground up
2. The concept has been executed by a few others in thousand better ways already, much better then we ever could. Two examples: https://oc.tc/ and http://adventurelobbies.com/ or even the ShotBow network. We don't have the resources to build a server like that
