Hey!
I'm pretty sure most of you know me. I joined Blocktopia on Janurary 13, of 2013. Jumping on RoF, for nostalgia. To be honest, I didnt expect to fall in love with the server. I then discovered Buildbox, and continued to meet many people. These people pushed me to my limits, and stretched my limits. Blocktopia was fun, eccentric, and was laid back. I started working mostly on Buildbox, but stopping on other servers to talk. I met many great people this way. The Summer of 2013, I left for 3 months. I had my reasons, and it wasn't anything with the server. I joined back in, and fell in love again. I started working for Adv. Builder, and after 3 attempts, I succeded! I was excited. I was active on the server for about 2 more months, and applied for Operator. I was going good so far, but some Ops never saw me, and couldn't judge. I didn't get that rank, but I still was on the server, socializing. I noticed something after a while, the hostility.
I started noticing something, Blocktopia wasn't the same. Ops being mean (No, I'm not pointing fingers) Players being mean, and forum trolls (or haters). I was witnessing the server I loved turn into a Semi-Strict server. Humour was low, I had no enjoyability. I left the server. One day, I check the forums, and saw a post about being more laid back. I was in hopes for this, so I joined back. At first, I was enjoying it, and started up BB, and that DoD. I was excited, and happy its back. After a while though, I was noticing something. No one talks anymore, chats deserted, and that makes me sad. I fell in love with this place because of how talkative people were, and how funny you guys were! I mean, some people still talk, yet rarely any laughs have been passed between me and players. Now, I'm not saying I'm leaving again. I'm tryng to say I want the old happy people back. Joking around, and having fun. Now, I'm not sure if it's just me expiriencing this, but this is about me (Wow that sounded snotty). I can agree that a lot of the Ops kept the laid back promise, but its the players. I think of some of you as close friends, even though its the internet.
[hl]TL;DR:[/hl] I'm sad about the negativity, and non talktivity.
I hope you read this, and I'm sorry about the rant. I just want a place to vent this out, and I want the community to hear me out. Thanks for reading

I'm going to take a stab at this and will have to admit that I'm one of those quiet players. I usually don't talk much if I'm building and in the zone, so to speak. I do read the chat to see what other people are saying and I say "Hi" if someone else says "Hi". If I do see someone asking for help I try to jump in and see what I can do. I'll talk a bit if someone needs help with building or thinking of ideas. Sometimes I'll jump in and joke around with other players, but beyond that, I tend to keep things to myself unless it's necessary to express them in any way.

I'm sorry that you're sad about the sense of negativity and unsociability of the players that you see on this server, but you just need to remember that everyone is different. You just can't expect people to be nice or sociable unless it's of one's own accord. So, what I think that you could do is try to open up conversations with other players instead? Just earlier you came on Buildbox and asked how everyone was doing. I responded, you replied, and the convo ended. I was satisfied with that short convo, but I suppose that you weren't? Keep prodding for a nice convo, unless that person says that they're busy and can't talk-- respect that.

Also, remember that Blocktopia is a community full of amazing people. So don't feel down if you see negativity or unsociablity in this community. Those things pale in comparison to the positive things that I've seen around this community.

Edit: This thread should probably be placed in Community Central // Discussions.

I had no idea where to place it. I'm not saying to keep prodding on players. I'm saying the chat is dead when I join. You said hi to me on BB. That's all I really want

Yeah, moved.

@Creeper_JeepersS I'll just start with a plain and simple--I get you. I get exactly where you are coming from, and for reasons exactly why you said I made that news post advising everybody to chill out and have some fun. What it all funnels back to however, is that in the end, people are going to be what they want to be. Some people just don't want to talk, and though I do see how that is disheartening(I joined classic lava back in 2011, and I just loved how fast the chat moved, the crazy conversations we had, and just the fun that was being part of a big group of people talking), it is, in my eyes, ok, because I don't think things are like that all the time! Yeah, every server has it's off hours, but when the player count goes up, I see the chat get a lot more fun as well.

I still love this community to death, and I was totally disheartened when I saw myself what you are seeing about negativity, but when it all comes down to it, the high points make it worth it to me, be that on the servers, teamspeak, irc, whatever. I'm fortunate enough to call a lot of people on teamspeak my friends, and they are a good laugh at that. Maybe you should try that out(though I will warn you, you maaay want to look into a game called League of Legends ;))? It does have it's off hours as well, but again, when it gets full, it gets fun.

I use teamspeak. Maybe I'm not on the busy hours then? I've been awfully busy running my girlfriend to her volleyball tourneys. I don't think I'd be interested in LoL. I'm a FPS gamer. Hahah. Sploorky, I think its just me wanting the classic back. We all miss it! I undesrstand that some poeple just don't... Talk, but if I say hi maybe you could say hi, and just throw a couple more things out there.

Hmm... Community is more quiet than back in 2011. Well, im in GMT+1 timezone, so this can be factor too.
Altough times of high activity happens on various events.
I remember crazy high chat activity in 2011 from classic LS, LoP, and... launch of Discordia.

I don't find much of negativity here.

To be honest, all I want is the fun back. I mean, yeah it's still there. But there are certain people who tend to argue with everything, not saying anyone in particular, and make it a dull place to be at the time. And we're really not bad people, so it's a huge shame.
What I mostly miss is the freedom of humour that we saw in Classic Lava. I'm not sure if it was on TNT or Zombies as I didn't play them much, but on Lava we used to joke so much and have such a laugh. It was honestly so friendly and nice, and I just want that feeling back, but sadly I don't know how to get it back :c

I think its mostly because there aren't 35 people online at one time anymore =S

I personally kind-of feel like the community used to be way more friendly. Especially on RoF & to new players. But I haven't really been active on BT long enough to have a real opinion about this. However, I do feel like some of the negativity is kind of deserved for some people, most of the time for attention whoring etc. Still, BT seems colder to me than it used to be.

While this is true, it's not just the amount of people that made it fun. Some people have changed over time (I will admit that even I have. :p) and they don't talk as much. I know that some people will get on RoF, and then AFK. It doesn't really make the game fun, and I know that. It makes it very long and dull. Not everyone wants to just sit there, and not talk to a single person.

This is true. I hate when they ruin the game by just arguing about something. It makes the people having fun feel a bit..down.

And it doesn't help that some of the old members from classic have left us.

I'v been part of Blocktopia for a very very long time, i'v had ranks going from player to director. And i really don't think the community has ever gone cold, boring or uninviting, to me trough all these years it has always been one of the friendliest places i'v ever visited. I do however agree that it can FEEL like it is.

There are times when you simply might stop talking to a group of people and this might be the majority of the friends you have here, your interests and personality slowely change or theirs does and you might find youself not enjoying talking with or hanging out with the players you used to, it has happened to me countless of times here and in other places.
And when it happens i can feel alone, or as if nobody is talking to me or as if the commynity has changed to the worse. And sometimes iv had to leave for a while.
But its also after these moments that i'v met some new amazing friends in this community that i never thought i would met otherwise.

And my solution when this happens might sound simple, but to me it really is, if people wont say hey to YOU, start saying hey to THEM. Initiate the conversation, if chat is going slow, try heating it up!
It might not always work, and sometimes the chat simply is dead. But most of the time people are happy to discuss things with you or be immature together with you. This is how i started to talk with Baker, sploorky and Superstein, who i now count as some of my closest friends in this community.

We have made a pretty clear stance as a community that we want to keep Blocktopia a small friendly and laid back community, we wont be having those 35+ player servers 24/7 anymore, and we havent had that for a long time now. But even if the servers are emptier then before, it doesn't take more than two people to have a conversation, and its easy to invite more people you dont know into having more fun with you. I'm not saying you have to hang out with everyone, you simply dont click with everyone. But you never know until you start talking with them.

And even if the servers are emptier at weekdays, its the forums where i get 90% of the interaction and really get to witness the friendliness of this community. (In this very thread you can see how quickly people are to try and help when people feel something is wrong!)
This is also where i'v made a lot of friends, simply by talking, and making myself noticed.
Sure there will be drama, there will be people who argue about everything and people you might feel are just plain stupid. But i personally dont feel like i have the time to judge or hold a grudge aginst people on the internet, and i'd much rather spend my time finding more friends in the community.

I probably rambled of topic a lot with this, but it feels like every so often we get people who feel the community has gone cold, less talkative and friendly. To me as a whole it has never changed a bit, you just notice different people and things as time move on. Usually as i said, its just me changing the groups of people i hang out with, and i'v always solved it by simply starting the converastion to new people myself.

But it can of course always be other things, Im not trying to trivialize the problems in the community people bring up, and some stuff certainly needs to be worked on together.
But its the people i hang out with that really makes this community for me. And i'm always ready to meet new people to hang out with.

Writing this when extrelemy tired so please dont judge that it probably jumps between topics and or might be weird to read. I had a point and im not sure if it got across at all.

See, I do say Hey, and I litereally sit there for 5 minutes waiting for a reply, then jump to a different server. The most fun I've had in the past 2 months was when I met toilet and certain others on BB. I change groups all the time, but yet, it just doesn't help. Thans for saying what you said, as to all you others! (Im also extremely tired, sorry)
