So, for a while I've written poetry. Over time, works from when I was a wee lass have either been forgotten, buried within countless notebooks, thrown away or damaged. But over the past few months I've been rekindling the flame, and I've started writing again! Yay!

I'll be updating this thread to the best of my abilities with new entries. I will also link my Instagram page below, which is where I post my poetry accompanied by a photo, under the tag #aikapoetry. Usually the photo is of what inspired me to make the work.

I write mainly free verse/spoken word. I don't like making words rhyme though I may throw a few rhymes in if the situation calls for it.

But enough about me, let's get to the reason why you're on this thread! Feedback is appreciated
When the leaves turn orange
And red and gold
What more can you do
But walk and listen to the
Crunch
Crunch
Crunch
Of the leaves beneath your feet
And the smell of crisp Autumn air
Rushing through your nose
Riding on the backs of grey clouds.
Everything is slow.
The air is cool.
And for once in a long time
You
Feel
Alive.

Love
It's a driving force, guiding our minds
To do great things
We can scale mountains, or dive to great depths
To show the one we love
The lengths that we would go to
The pain we would put ourselves through
All in order to see them happy.
And sometimes that pain
Translates into emotional strain
But it's worth it, if it means their world
Is an oasis
A place where they can be themselves
They can build themselves up
And nothing can tear them down.
Childlike in a lover's embrace
Rose-red cheeks and an endearing smile
Small steps leading to a lifetime together
Through the good and the bad
You're appreciative
Lucky you found someone unlike anyone
You've ever seen, ever felt.
You're happy
They're happy
And that's all that really matters.

Who knows the real me?
No one truly does.
The real me is hidden behind so many questions.
What name should I use?
What pronouns are they going to use?
Why do I have to question myself?
My daily life is filled with all different forms of dysphoria
I feel trapped inside this body that I know doesn't fit me
And I'm constantly in a battle with myself
But I also have support.
It might not be financial support
Which we all struggle so hard to get
But it's emotional
It's linguistic
My teachers and my friends have been nothing but helpful
They've given me what really matters.
They've given me my name.
They've given me my pronouns.
They don't question my identity.
They see the real me.
They see Luna
They see a smart, hard-working girl trying to move on in her life
They see all the positive steps I'm taking
They are the ones that keep me going.
If you know a transgender person
It is of the utmost importance that you recognize them
For who they truly are
And thank you for recognizing me tonight
For who I am.
I am Luna.
I use she/her pronouns.
And I am one trans person out of many
Who don't often have an outlet.
Not the kind of outlet you charge your phone with
But the kind of outlet that lets you express yourself
I've spent years waiting for this opportiunity
Countless hours drafting different ways of saying what I've wanted to say
And now that I've finally said it...
There lies ahead of me
A brand new road with countless paths
Ultimately leading to one thing.
My happiness.
Thank you.

Depression is a lot more
Than feeling "a bit down"
Depression is an illness
That 1 in 5 people suffer from.
It's hundreds of debilitating feelings.
It's not wanting to get out of bed.
Not feeling capable of doing everyday chores.
Feeling that we have no meaning.
It's getting overly happy at all the small things
That finally go right in our lives
When everything else seems to go wrong.
Depression is living a stranger's life.
People see our positive traits
And our wide smiles.
What people don't see is hidden
Behind a mask we wear so well.
Behind our wide smiles sits
Constant sadness.
Tears.
Nights spent alone.
We know that after a storm
Can come a rainbow
But despite the most inhuman of efforts
We cannot stray from the facts.
Depression is the number one cause of suicide.
Please.
If you are one of the many who suffer
Take steps in the right direction.
Seek help.
It's not too late.
It gets better.

There are about
100 billion stars in the Milky Way
None of whom can compare to the
Light I see in your eyes when I gaze into them
Like I gaze at the same cluster of stars
In this night sky that I've gazed at
For 17 years and I'm glad that 3 of those years
Has been spent in the company of you
Can we make it last longer because I feel
That the bond we have forged goes beyond
What just friends can feel but it doesn't have to go
Much farther than it has already
I'd be happy knowing that I can talk to you
At any time and see you at your absolute worst because
I've only seen you at what you think is mediocre
But in all honesty it's close to your best
Even though to you your best might not be good at all
What I see is a masterpiece buried in a block of granite
Waiting for the artist to chisel away the imperfections
The artist is you and you control what you want to have happen
So please don't rush things thinking that things will look perfect
Immediately or even on the first time because we all have to
Break some parts off of us and rebuild ourselves
In order to reach what we think is our best.

I want to tell you how I feel but will you feel the same way?
Am I doomed to keep my feelings to myself due to
My fear of being rejected?
Probably, honestly
I'm running against a brick wall trying to
Formulate a way to express my feelings
Saying 'I really care about you so why don't we
Give this a shot and see where we end up?'
Is that romantic enough?
Am I just a hopeless romantic, love?
Will we find anyone else to show us the
Same care that we're capable of?
Who knows.
I sure don't.
But when you find yourself staring at the night sky
And you see the bright moon
Looking down on you
I hope you think of me.
I hope you consider me but
I won't hold my breath
If you tell me to breathe and move on.

I am from pen and paper
From black and white photos
And pastel colour pallets.
I am from an artist’s mind
Painted on a personal canvas
Shaped like a ball of clay
By gentle hands.

I am from the flower patch.
I run through the meadow
With a crown made of daisies
I am nature.
I grow and shrink like glorious Morning Glories
Bringing my own beauty for the world to see.

I am from the creek.
An isolated spot known to few
Where I secluded myself
From the rest of the world
And became one with my surroundings
I am from cornfields.
I grow with my surroundings
I thrive off other people
And fall in line with the crowd.

I am from individuality.
I was given free reign to shape myself
Into who I am today
By a mother
Who was always there for me
She never left my side and
Held me in loving arms
And that is where
I am from.

For an unknown amount of time,
Strange voices have dictated my life
Told me what I should do
And how I should act.
They told me what they perceived to be
The opinions of other people.
These voices wouldn’t stop until I laid down
And closed my eyes and drifted to sleep.
And even then, they insisted on keeping me awake.
They were relentless and unforgiving.

When I first arrived at the Pavilion
I felt lost and unimportant.
I felt like I was just another cog
Turning in this great machine that was labelled “R3C0VERY”
Covered in warning signs and filled with pill bottles.
I didn’t think being there had any meaning
But I went along with things because in my mind
Going through 7 hours of this program
Was somehow better than slipping further.
Eventually I began talking more and more
To the other patients
And started to really listen to what they had to say.
Tuning into the gossip of the day
Who liked who, who got discharged and who got admitted.
Why we were there
And what relationships budded from being there.
I remember thinking
While eavesdropping on these conversations
“I don’t even want a relationship. I’m just gonna be lonely for now.”

And then I met you.
When I met you
Time stopped in its tracks.
When we first talked I knew that I was not alone
When we had our first heart-to-heart
I knew that my heart would be forever yours.
When we first had our hours-long phone call
I knew I would never tire from hearing your voice
Or seeing your face
When I had to leave, I felt shame
Because I knew I was the rock that was keeping you steady
When I called back and you confided in me your biggest fears
I knew that I had to be there from now on
One way or another I would be there for you.

When I feel your touch
I feel the spark living inside both of us
Grow into a wildfire.
When I hear your sweet voice
The voices in my head cease to exist
When I see your scars so openly
I know that mine
Are nothing to be ashamed of
I know now that after a rain storm
The sun will rise again
All I have to do to see that is wake up
I know that the future will be better than today
Because I’ve seen it.
I’ve seen the future in your eyes.
And in it
We were alive.

Great poetry, I write my own too. Fell in love with it recently. Keep it up, looking forward to having to teach my kids about your works in the future ;)

well holy shit i lost motivation for a couple months but i'm back in the swing of things

have a shitty sappy love poem that i made for someone who will never see it hopefully :&)

give me feedback and suggestions on how to make this better even though they won't see it
i like improving on finished pieces

edit: i've updated the format of the previous ones to just be normal size/font, the way the font looked before was ugly as hell

I know I said the next poem would be about art but silly ol' me had to make another love poem

I want to tell you how I feel but will you feel the same way?
Am I doomed to keep my feelings to myself due to
My fear of being rejected?
Probably, honestly
I'm running against a brick wall trying to
Formulate a way to express my feelings

And you see the bright moon
Looking down on you
I hope you think of me.
I hope you consider me but
I won't hold my breath
If you tell me to breathe and move on.

I promise I'll get the other one worked on soon, but for now, enjoy this.

While I put the finishing touches on my next poem, enjoy this thing I wrote for my English class.

Painted on a personal canvas
Shaped like a ball of clay
By gentle hands.
